The Yavapai County VISTA Project, headquartered out of Youth Count, was created in 2006 out of the vision of a single AmeriCorps VISTA Member.
The Project’s mission is to help build and sustain the efforts of Yavapai County service providers and community members to continually improve the quality of life across the region. We work to support efforts in creating a just and healthy community.
Our project supported by the Corporation for National and Community Service, provides full-time volunteers to nonprofit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.
On May 16th, over 200 community members gathered for YCVP's annual "Celebrate Service" event. The event thanks organizations and individuals in the quad-city community, promotes national service and volunteerism, and presents the President's Volunteer Service Awards to community volunteers. Summer Associate Program Kicks Off
The Yavapai County VISTA Project has successfully kicked-off a 15 member Summer Associate program. These members serve for ten weeks with our current community partners and are engaging in specialized projects primarily geared to alleviate the effects of the economic situation.
At the start of the program, YCVP gathered Summer Associate members together for a morning of team-building activities and boy did they get silly! A special thanks to Kado Stewart, one of our full-term VISTA members, for facilitating the activities. The morning together enabled members to get to know each other a little better, talk with one another about what it means to be on a team, how to effectively communicate with one another, and what it means to be a leader.
