Joining Yavapai County VISTA Projects

Eligibility for AmeriCorps*VISTA

You must be at least 18 years old, but there is no upper age limit. Most programs seek members with college degrees or at least three years of work experience. Many AmeriCorps*VISTA members bring significant work and life experiences to their assignment. Initiative, flexibility, and organizational skills are a must. Fluency in Spanish or other languages also can be helpful in certain programs. You must also pass a background check. And of course, you must be available to serve full-time for one full year.

AmeriCorps State and National

Can't make a full time committment?

There are other AmeriCorps programs that offer an opportunity to serve, while still taking classes or working.  AmeriCorps State and National programs are open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent resident aliens age 17 and older. Members serve full- or part-time over a 9- to 12-month period. The Yavapai County VISTA Project works closely with AmeriCorps State and National recruiters in the Prescott Area.

Please contact jbcavas@ycvp.org or call 928 708 0100 if you are interested in a 600, 900, or 1700 hour AmeriCorps position with a local organization.

How to Apply for VISTA

Our application process is highly competitive. We take the best and the brightest of the VISTA applicants. At the Yavapai County VISTA Project we spend a lot of time fostering projects, building community relationships, and earning community trust. We are selective about our VISTA members because we look for people who are in-line with our mission and vision and who understand the importance of doing community building work.

Our interview process has four phases.

  1. First you must apply online on the AmeriCorps recruitment site (see "Joining 101" below).
  2. After the VISTA Leader has received your application in the online recruitment system, someone for YCVP will contact you to schedule a first round interview with a project staff member. The first round interview will last about 45 minutes and is a phone interview.
  3. If the initial interview goes well, the VISTA Leader will contact you within a week to schedule a second round interview with the supervisor of the specific project(s) that you applied for.
  4. If the interview goes well, the Project Supervisor from the Yavapai County VISTA Project will contact you shortly after the interview for your last and final interview.

Do not be scared off by this process. The length of the application process has a lot to do with the availability of you to interview and your project supervisors availability. It typically takes less then three weeks. This interview process allows lots of opportunity for you to interact with project staff and allows ample opportunities for your questions to be answered.

We encourage you to apply. We are an open and affirming organization committed to the elimination of discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identify, race, class, economic status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and cultural and religious backgrounds.
