Legacy Letter: Tiffany L. Jacob
Year 2 (Generations United of Yavapai County)/ Year 3 (Youth Count)
August 28, 2007
To Whom It May Concern:
Although I made the decision to resign from my AmeriCorps*VISTA term after 4 months of service, I am leaving with a sense of clarity and confidence that this program, with new leadership and a new start, will go on to be a successful and integral part of strengthen the communities in Yavapai County.
I started my term as the organization was going through transition. A project year was ending and the team was under great pressure to tie up loose ends. It was at this point that I was assigned what was going to be the one and only major task of my service; the data book, The Spirit of Yavapai County. This project was tedious and irritating but not as tedious and irritating as it could have been had it not been for my good friend and fellow VISTA member who worked on the book with me for 4 months. I gained a sense of pride in the work that we accomplished on this project and I am confident that the community will benefit from the book.
The people in this program are your strength, you should trust in them as you trust in yourself and with this bond your service and your legacy will be illuminating. I won't be around to see it happen, but, Yavapai County VISTA Project, with new leadership (Maggie Garvey as supervisor and hopefully Jessica Cavas as VISTA Leader) will undoubtedly be a supreme and successful project that you should feel nothing but proud to be a part of. I am confident in the leadership and talents these women posses as they are about to change the face of the VISTA program in Arizona. This change gives me clarity and makes me believe that when a problem is identified, passionate people will go the lengths of the world to change it. That is exactly what these VISTA members are doing.
Personally, the past 4 months have been the most trying of my life and I have realized that my passion lies elsewhere. I needed to go through this term in order to make a life decision about moving on. That is the great thing about VISTA and AmeriCorps in general, it is about service and service is much about You and You realizing who you are and what you need to find happiness. My advice and my legacy is to give it your all and to listen to your heart at all times. No matter what you choose, it will never fail you.
Sincerely,
Tiffany L. Jacob
